3 février 2026 – mardi de la 4^ème semaine du Temps Ordinaire

2 S 18, 9-10.14b.24-25a.30 – 19, 4 ; Mc 5, 21-43 

H O M É L I E 

          Ce récit évangélique est très bien construit. Presque chaque détail y est chargé d'une signification symbolique ; et nous n'en percevrons certainement pas tout le message, si nous le lisons simplement comme une belle "histoire". L'histoire n'est là que pour servir de support au message ; et ce message concerne la vie, sa restauration et son entretien.

HOMILY 

          This Gospel story is very well constructed. Almost every detail is charged with symbolic meaning, and we will certainly not grasp the full message if we simply read it as a beautiful ‘story.’ The story is only there to support the message, and that message concerns life, its restoration and its maintenance.

          Dans nos célébrations liturgiques, durant tout le Temps de Noël, nous avons célébré le mystère de l'Incarnation, c'est-à-dire le fait que Dieu a voulu se faire l'un des nôtres. Durant tout le reste de l'année liturgique nous célébrons le même mystère sous des aspects différents. Aujourd'hui, en la fête de la Présentation de Jésus au Temple, nous célébrons l'Incarnation comme une rencontre -- la rencontre de Dieu avec l'humanité, exprimée symboliquement dans la rencontre au Temple le quarantième jour après la naissance de Jésus. Dans le rite de la lumière, qui a précédé notre célébration eucharistique, nous avons célébré ce même mystère de l'Incarnation de Dieu comme la venue de la Lumière dans nos ténèbres.

Homily

          Throughout the Christmas season, in our liturgical celebrations, we have celebrated the mystery of the Incarnation, that is, the fact that God wished to become one of us. Throughout the rest of the liturgical year, we celebrate the same mystery in different ways. Today, on the feast of the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, we celebrate the Incarnation as an encounter -- God's encounter with humanity, expressed symbolically in the meeting in the Temple on the fortieth day after Jesus' birth. In the Rite of Light, which preceded our Eucharistic celebration, we celebrated this same mystery of the Incarnation of God as the coming of Light into our darkness.

La plupart des gens cherchent le bonheur dans un pays étranger appelé « Ailleurs ». Les pauvres rêvent du bonheur des riches, ceux qui souffrent d’isolement rêvent du bonheur de ceux qui sont entourés d’amis. Le bonheur est propre à une région où il fait toujours chaud, mais pas trop. Il appartient au voisin qui a une maison plus grande, une femme plus belle, plus de talent artistique, et dont les réussites sont plus appréciées.

Most people seek happiness in a foreign country called “Elsewhere”. The poor dream of the happiness of the rich, those who suffer from isolation dream of the happiness of those who are surrounded by friends. Happiness belongs to a region where it is always warm, but not too warm. It belongs to the neighbor who has a bigger house, a more beautiful wife, more artistic talent, and whose achievements are more appreciated.
