12 December 2025 – Friday of the 2nd week of Advent

Is 48:17-19; Mt 11:16-19

Homily

In the first chapters of his Gospel, Saint Luke draws a parallel between Jesus and His precursor John. Thus, the account of the announcement made to Zechariah of the birth of John the Baptist is entirely parallel to the account we read of the announcement made to Mary of the birth of Jesus, which we read on the feast of the Immaculate Conception. In the passage from Matthew's Gospel that we have just read, Jesus himself draws this parallel between himself and John. John the Baptist therefore occupies a very special place in the Gospel, and likewise in the liturgy of Advent.

11 December 2025 – Thursday of the Second Week of Advent

Isaiah 41:13-20; Matthew 11:11-15

Homily

John the Baptist, from his prison, had sent his disciples to Jesus to ask Him if He was the one who was to come or if they should wait for another. Jesus replied, saying, ‘Go and tell John what you have seen – the lame walk, the deaf hear, etc.’, referring explicitly to several of Isaiah's prophecies that we have heard in the first reading of the Mass in recent days.

          La première lecture d’aujourd’hui, tirée comme les jours précédents du Livre d’Isaïe est le début de la deuxième partie de ce Livre, ou de ce qui est appelé le Deuxième Isaïe, et donc aussi le début de ce qui est connu sous le beau nom du Livre de la Consolation d’Israël. C’est en même temps le récit de la vocation du prophète.

Today's first reading, taken as on previous days from the Book of Isaiah, is the beginning of the second part of this book, or what is called Second Isaiah, and therefore also the beginning of what is known by the beautiful name of the Book of the Consolation of Israel. It is also the story of the prophet's calling.

H O M É L I E

Les lectures de ce matin sont d'une richesse extraordinaire. Elles nous présentent une fresque grandiose de l'Histoire du Salut depuis le moment de la création jusqu'à la plénitude des temps. Et même la lettre aux Éphésiens nous fait remonter plus haut encore, avant même la création du monde, au moment où nous avons tous été choisis dans le Christ pour que nous soyons, dans l'amour ses fils et ses filles, saints et irréprochables devant Lui.
