Mary Magdalene, the one who had anointed Jesus' feet and kissed them tenderly, the one of whom Jesus said that wherever the Gospel was proclaimed, what she had done would be told, in memory of her - this same Mary is the first to come to the tomb on the morning of the third day. And what does she find? An empty tomb. She then runs to inform Simon Peter and John. They come running. They too are looking for the Lord. And what do they find? They too find an empty tomb.

Nos nuits de passage

Nous sommes au cœur d’une célébration qui se situe en pleine nuit – une vraie « vigile », donc -- au cours du passage des ténèbres à la lumière. Ce passage est une expression symbolique du long passage des ténèbres et du chaos originel du début de la Genèse jusqu’à la lumière du Christ ressuscité le matin de Pâques.

Short homily for Good Friday

The account of the Passion according to Saint John, which we have just heard, has a different characteristic from that of the other three Gospels. In this account, John presents us with an image of Jesus in line with the one he developed throughout his Gospel. It is the image of a Jesus who is the revelation of the Father and who is also, in His person, the full manifestation of love.

Brève homélie pour le Vendredi Saint

          Le récit de la Passion selon saint Jean, que nous venons d’entendre, a une caractéristique différente de celle des trois autres Évangiles. Dans ce récit, Jean nous présente une image de Jésus conforme à celle qu’il a élaborée tout au long de son Évangile. C’est l’image d’un Jésus qui est la révélation du Père et qui est aussi, en sa personne, la pleine manifestation de l’amour.

The Old Testament book of Deuteronomy ends with the story of the death of Moses, just before the people of Israel entered the promised land, which Moses himself did not enter. Before he died, Moses recited a long hymn of thanksgiving and pronounced a long blessing over the twelve tribes of Israel. Before that, he wrote the entire text of the Law, which was to be deposited next to the Lord's Ark of the Covenant, which was to accompany the people to the Promised Land. And the account in Deuteronomy says that Moses wrote these articles of the Law ‘to the end’.

Le Livre de l’Ancien Testament appelé le Deutéronome se termine par le récit de la mort de Moïse, tout juste avant l’entrée du peuple d’Israël dans la terre promise, où Moïse lui-même, d’ailleurs, n’entrera pas. Avant de mourir, Moïse récite un long cantique d’action de grâce et prononce une longue bénédiction sur les douze tribus d’Israël. Avant cela il rédige tout le texte de la Loi qui sera déposé auprès de l’Arche d’Alliance du Seigneur, laquelle accompagnera le peuple dans la terre promise. Et le récit du Deutéronome dit que Moïse rédigea ces articles de la Loi « jusqu’au bout », ou « jusqu’à la fin ».
